Report on JKA Malta team results in JKAE Open
05/12/2014

Congratulations to the JKA-Malta Team!

A very good effort from our team at the JKA-England Open Championship, considering that most of the members were on their very first experience, and considering the short time available for the preparation!
Well done to all.

Title

NameSurnameCategoryRemarks
MissLianeChircopC36: Female Individual Kata 13-15 years1st round: Won convincingly against a 15 year old Nidan although she is a 13 year old 3rd Kyu. Stopped in the 2nd round: lost in a well balanced match to Shekinah Bautista (European Bronze medallist) who eventually won the 1st place in this category. Could easily have ended in the final. We will soon see you on the podium.
MissNicoleChircopC39: Female Individual Kata 16+ yearsMade it to the semi finals. 5th overall. Very good show as the category was quite numerous. Convincing win against a JKAE squad member. Believe in yourself! We will soon see you on the podium.
Mr.LyndonMalliaC37: Male Individual Kata 16-20 yearsGot through to the 2nd round with a very convincing win, but received Kiken (Withdrawal) due to unheard call on Tatami. Very unlucky!  Can do great things.
Mr.DejanVencelovskiC47 Individual Kumite Division B (19-20 Brown to Nidan/ 21+ to Shodan)Lost 1st bout in essentially an Ai-Uchi (mutual attack) situation against a black belt (he is only 5th Kyu in reality but fought in a 3rd kyu and above category). Fought very well for his grade.
Mr.EtienneCeci BonelloC38: Male Individual Kata 21+ years/ Assistant Coach

Mr.DavidSciclunaC47: Individual Kumite Division B (19-20 Brown to Nidan/ 21+ to Shodan)Made it to the 2nd round. Good show. Stole a win at the last moment to get through 2nd round with a strong kizami-zuki. Lost in a well balanced second fight.  Has great potential.

Mr.VincentMizziC49: Male Individual Kumite Seniors 45+A 3rd Kyu Brown Belt against a 4th Dan. Well done. Reacted strongly to his opponent risking Hansoku. The 2nd waza-ari against him was lost in a debatable Ai-Uchi situation. The category had a small number of participants, so he ended 3rd place jointly with Slobodan. His opponent won the category.
Mr.SlobodanVencelovskiC49: Male Individual Kumite Seniors 45+Fought against a much more experienced opponent. Stood his ground till the end. The category had small number of participants, so he ended 3rd place jointly with Vince.
Mr.DarioChircopCoach and RefereePrepared the team but acted as Chief Referee to Seniors Female Kumite Final and Children KIK eliminations. Corner Judge to Children’s KIK/JIK/Sambon Kumite eliminations; Children’s Kata Final; Seniors Female Kata Final; Male 21+ Kumite Div B eliminations; and Male 45+ Kumite Eliminations.
